How to cope with being single at Christmas and New Year

There are many things to love and enjoy about being single... here are just a few.

  1. Being single gives you freedom - you can do just as you wish and make your own decisions.

  2. Don't stick your head in the sand and completely ignore the festive season - isolating yourself will only make you feel lonely.

  3. Instead arrange to meet up with friends and make the most of the time off work. Spend time with friends and loved ones who love you for who you are and bring positivity into your life.

  4. Ring the changes and do things differently - take the opportunity to start a new tradition and include your family and friends.

  5. Give to others - volunteering for a charity of Christmas will make you feel good about yourself.

  6. This might be the time to avoid watching romantic films and listening to sad songs - choose something cheerful to put you in the festive spirit.

  7. Keep loneliness in perspective - you may go to parties by yourself, decorate the tree by yourself - but be grateful and appreciate how much you do have in your life. You'll be surprised how lucky you are, even without a partner.
