Although Manchester is home to around 2.7million people, it can be really difficult to meet new people. Finding someone you like enough to date or be in a relationship with can be even harder.

A recent study showed that men racked up the most time on dating apps, spending 85 minutes per day on them while single women spent an average of 79 minutes per day sorting through the dating minefield. For some who value their confidentiality, a big concern is that anyone might come across their dating profile on an app. Although dating apps do work for some, nothing replaces the potential chemistry of meeting in person.
Before dating apps and dating websites were around people actually met each other in real life. And while this does still happen, it’s easy to fall into the comfort of a dating app instead of trying to meet people in person.
So how do I meet new people? While dating apps are one way to meet someone, there are alternative ways to meeting new single people. Going to a bar doesn’t need to be the only option and living in Manchester means there are plenty of opportunities to meet people with shared interests.
You could take a look at local event listings and what’s on guides in areas that you like. It’s likely that social events that aren’t necessarily described as dating events will have plenty of single people there. Late night openings at museums and galleries are another way to connect with more people. Gyms can be a great place to meet like-minded single people, and not a bad option as you’ll also feel great from your workout. Volunteering for a charity is another way to meet people with similar values to you. Sometimes it’s just a case of leaving the house and heading to a nice coffee shop without your phone or laptop and smiling and engaging in conversation with someone.
